Wolf Pack women's basketball opens conference play with win over San Jose State

Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball returned home to close out 2024 by hosting San Jose State in the start of conference play. The Pack downed the Spartans with a final score of 63-59.

Imbie Jones got things going for Nevada, knocking down the first points of the game with a hookshot. The Pack held onto the lead through the first quarter, only allowing 10 points from the Spartans, taking a 15-10 lead into the second.

San Jose State cut the lead down before halftime and even jumped in front with just under six minutes to go. However, Izzy Sullivan put the Pack back in front with her second three of the day.

Every time the Spartans attempted to take control, the Pack responded to regain the lead. The second quarter saw one tie and four lead changes before the Pack took a 30-26 lead into the break.

The second half opened up with Sullivan knocking down a jumper to add to Nevada's lead. The Pack continued to play with intensity, drawing fouls and creating turnovers. In the third quarter alone, Nevada forced five turnovers on the way to its biggest lead of the game of 10 points.

Into the final 10, the Pack was up, 48-40.

Sullivan quickly put Nevada back up by 10 to start the fourth quarter. As the Spartans attempted a comeback, the Pack went bucket-for-bucket with them, not allowing them to get in front.

With just over a minute remaining, San Jose State tied the game, but Jones answered with a layup to put the Pack back up by two. 22 seconds to go, the Spartans found themselves at the line for three free throws. They only hit one, the Pack still up by one point.

Nevada was able to hold on and close it out, opening conference play with a win.

Izzy Sullivan led the pack in scoring with 13 points, followed by Lexie Givens and Audrey Roden with 11. Roden led in rebounds with six.

Nevada will go on the road to take on New Mexico on January 1 and Air Force on January 4.
