Box Score MAUI, Hawaii - Nevada women's basketball took on Miami in day one of the Maui Classic, falling to the Hurricanes with a final score of 84-53.
Intensity was high from the start, the teams trading baskets in the opening minute and a half.
Lexie Givens giving Nevada its first points off a second-chance layup. The first quarter continued to be close with six ties and four lead changes.
Heading into the second 10, Nevada was trailing by only two with a score of 15-13.
Quarter two, the Hurricanes began to pull away as the Wolf Pack defense struggled to contain them. Offensively, Nevada matched the first quarter and put up 13 more points, but trailed 39-26 heading into the break.
The second half continued much like the end of the first. Despite Miami continuing to add onto its lead, Nevada had its best scoring quarter in the fourth. The Pack tallied 15 points in the final 10 minutes of play.
Givens ended the night with 18 points and three rebounds.
Audrey Roden recorded 16 points and also grabbed three boards.
Nevada will take on Western Kentucky tomorrow at 5:30 PM in the second and final day of the Maui Classic.
