Box Score RENO, Nev. - Wolf Pack women's basketball closed out the Nugget Classic on Sunday, falling to Portland with a final score of 88-72.
Both teams started out with intensity, Portland getting the first points, but Nevada grabbing the lead and building on it. The Pack scored five consecutive points with a three from
Audrey Roden and a pull-up jumper from
Izzy Sullivan in the opening minutes.Â
Nevada struggled to keep the momentum going, trialing 26-9 after the first 10.
The Pack grabbed the first points of the second quarter, Roden scoring the jumper. She ended the first half with 11 of Nevada's points, going 5-6 from the field and shooting 50% from beyond the arc.
Despite the offensive performance from Roden, Nevada was down 42-25 at the break.
Into the third quarter, the Pack cut a once 17-point deficit down to just nine with a little under two minutes remaining in the third.
Izzy Sullivan splashed two three-pointers, on top of several made free throws by multiple Nevada players.Â
Portland put a few more points on the board before the end of the quarter, the score 60-48 heading into the final 10.Â
Nevada hung with Portland for the remainder of the game, continuing to cut into the lead, recording 24 points in the fourth quarter. Comeback efforts for the Pack fell short as they ultimately dropped the game to the Pilots.
Victoria Davis led the team with 14 points, while Roden finished with a season high 13.
Lexie Givens led in rebounds with eight, while putting up 10 points.Â
Nevada will next head out on the road to face Pepperdine on Friday at 6 PM.
