Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball took down Southern Utah in day two of the Nugget Classic with a final score of 72-54.
The Pack came out with intensity from the start, going on a five-point scoring run to open the game. On the defensive side, Nevada held off Southern Utah until two and a half minutes in.
Nevada continued to play strong through the opening 10, only tying the game once before regaining the lead and holding on to take a 20-15 advantage into the second.
The second quarter, Nevada got stronger, going up by as much as 22. The Pack didn't allow a field goal from the Thunderbirds for over half of the quarter and forced six turnovers.
The first half, Nevada shot 55.2% from the paint and 75% from beyond the arc, taking a 45-25 lead into the break.
Izzy Sullivan was perfect in the opening 20, going 4-4 from inside, 1-1 deep and 2-2 from the line.
Quarter three kicked off with Southern Utah knocking down two free throws before Nevada continued to build on its lead and go up by 25. Despite the Thunderbirds attempts, the Wolf Pack never let the lead get below 19 and took a 57-34 lead into the final 10.
Nevada continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, only allowing Southern Utah to cut the lead to 15.
The Pack ended the day with 14 forced turnovers and held the Thunderbirds to shooting under 33% from inside. Sullivan led Nevada with 18 points, followed by
Victoria Davis with 14 and both
Kennedy Lee and
Lexie Givens with 10 a piece. Lee also led in rebounds with nine.
Nevada will close out the Nugget Classic tomorrow at 1 PM against Portland.
