ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Nevada and New Mexico split Friday's doubleheader at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, with the Wolf Pack taking the nightcap, 9-8, after dropping the opener, 9-5.

The Pack (19-29, 9-16) came back from an early 7-3 deficit in its win, scoring four time to tie it up at 7-7 in the fourth, then getting Jesse Pierce's two-run bloop double in the fifth to account for the winning runs.

Pierce led the Pack at the plate on the day, notching four hits including his 11th home run of the season, and driving in four runs. Matt Clayton went a combined 3-for-8 with a homer, his 10th of the year, and four RBIs.

Morgan White got the win in relief, with Kolby Kmetko striking out three over the final two innings for his seventh save.

Friday's second game was a makeup of March 26's postponed game in Reno. The teams will continue the regularly-scheduled series with New Mexico (25-20, 12-13 MW) as the home team Saturday at 5 p.m. PT.

Game 1 - New Mexico 9, Nevada 5
New Mexico scored nine-straight runs from the second to the fifth innings, erasing an early Nevada lead and taking the first game of the doubleheader, 9-5.

Nevada took a 2-0 lead just two batters into the contest, as Matt Clayton followed Nolan Wilson's leadoff single with a two-run homer.

After getting a two-out RBI single from Chase Weissenborn in the second, New Mexico took the lead for good with four runs in the third against Pack starter Kade Morris.

The Lobos tied it up on Braydon Runion's RBI double, before Morris got the next two outs and looked poise to get out of the frame. But Justin Olson's two-out single to center plated Runion with the go-ahead run, and, after a single from Devon Dixon, back-to-back RBI singles from Weissenborn and Dylan Ditzenberger gave New Mexico a 5-2 lead.

The Lobos made it a seven-run lead following two-run homers by Runion in the fourth and Lenny Junior Ashby in the fifth. Nevada threatened in the seventh with a two-run triple from Henry Strmecki and an RBI double from JR Freethy, but Lobo reliever Arthur Steinkamp allowed just one hit over the final 2.2 innings to preserve the New Mexico win.

Morris gave up seven runs on 13 hits over four innings, falling to 4-6 with the loss. Michael Sarhatt and Clayton Ray handled the final four innings, allowing just four hits.

New Mexico starter Riley Egloff gave up 13 hits and five runs over 6.1 innings, but struck out seven and stranded eight Wolf Pack batters on base to get his seventh win.

Strmecki and Freethy each had three hits in the contest, while Clayton's homer was his 10th of the season.

Game 2 - Nevada 9, New Mexico 8
Both teams came out swinging in the nightcap, each scoring seven times within the first four innings. But it would be the Wolf Pack with the last laugh, on Jesse Pierce's two-run double into the Bermuda Triangle of left-center field in the sixth, to take the 9-8 win.

The win halted Nevada's slide at four games, and, with it being the makeup game from March 26, kept the Pack's run alive of not being swept in a three-game series this Mountain West season.

Braydon Runion opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double, and, Reed Spenrath followed with a two-run double to score Lenny Junior Ashby and Runion to make it 3-0 New Mexico.

Nevada answered right away in its half of the first. Nolan Wilson led off with a triple to center, then scored on a Tristin Lively wild pitch. After Matt Clayton's walk, Jesse Pierce smashed his 11th home run of the season to tie it up at 3-3.

The Lobos retook the lead, 5-3, on Jeffrey David's RBI double and Ashby's run-scoring infield single in the second, then upped it to 7-3 in the fourth on Ashby's two-run shot to right.

But, again, the Pack responded in the bottom half. With Jaxon Woodhouse on first and one out, Dawson Martin walked and Josh Catacutan singled to center to load the bases. Justin Tiger's walk forced in Woodhouse, and Wilson's RBI single was followed by Clayton's two-run double to tie it up at 7-7.

After New Mexico took an 8-7 lead in the top of the sixth, Wilson and Clayton again spurred a rally. With two out, Wilson was hit by a pitch, and Clayton walked. Pierce's high fly ball to short left-center landed among three Lobo fielders, and both Wilson and Clayton, running on contact, scored.

Pierce drove in four Wolf Pack runs on two hits, while Wilson also finished the game with two hits.

Morgan White spelled starter Peyton Stumbo to start the sixth, and went two innings giving up just one run on three hits to get his third win.

Kolby Kmetko came on for the eighth, and immediately got out of a jam. With Lobo runners on second and third and none out, Kmetko got Runion to ground to first, then struck out Spenrath and Holland to end the threat. He finished the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

New Mexico reliever Brian McBroom took the loss, giving up two runs over the final 4.2 innings.
