LAS VEGAS – Nevada women's tennis drops their first-round match to No. 10 seed Fresno State 4-2, after a hard-fought battle playing catchup until Fresno State's Carolina Piferi clinched in the third set at No. 4 against Nevada's
Mariana Campino, bringing their run for a Mountain West title to a close.
The Pack fell behind after dropping the doubles point to the Bulldogs. At No. 1,
Mariana Campino and
Anastasia Luneva saw a 6-1 win for Nevada, beating out Fresno State's Mathilde Magrini and Meshkatolzahra Safi, but couldn't capitalize after falling at Nos. 2 and 3 to the Bulldogs.
In singles,
Lou-Anne Guerbert picked up the first point for Nevada at No. 3, after being down in the first set to take the match 6-2, 6-1. Fresno State took a 3-1 lead after securing wins at Nos. 1 and 6. Luneva fell to Yinglak Jittakoat 6-2, 6-1 while
Audrey Moutama was defeated by Carlotta Nonnis Marzano 6-4, 6-3. Amahée Charrier took Magrini in straight-sets victories at No. 2, going 7-5 6-4, picking up the second point for Nevada.
At No. 4,
Mariana Campino dropped the first set to Carolina Piferi 7-5, ultimately coming back in the second set 7-5, putting up a fight to keep the Pack's chances alive. Coming down to the third set, Piferi would come out on top, defeating Campino 6-2, clinching the match for the Bulldogs with the fourth point.
