SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State scored nine-straight runs to erase an early Nevada lead, sending the Wolf Pack to a 9-4 road defeat Thursday.
Nolan Wilson got the Pack out to a 2-0 lead in the first with his second homer of the season, a two-run shot. Wilson continued his hot start to the season with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
But Sacramento State (6-1) got a run in both the first and second frames to even things up, before solo home runs from Martin Vincelli-Simard, Josh Rolling, and Garet Crenshaw in the third put the Hornets up for good at 5-2.
The home runs chased Pack starter Peyton Stumbo, who fell to 0-1. Stumbo struck out six batters, but was charged with four earned runs on seven hits.
Hornets reliever Cooper Rons came on to start the fourth and threw three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Sacramento State added a run in the sixth, and three in the seventh to pad its lead to 9-2. Nevada (3-5) got solo homers from Dawson Martin and Taylor Holder in the ninth to wrap the scoring.
Nevada opens a four-game home series at Peccole Park against Hofstra with a doubleheader Friday. The teams will play a seven-inning game in the opener, set for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch, with the nightcap set to go nine innings and begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Saturday is set for a 1:05 p.m. start with Sunday's finale scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
