SAN JOSE - San José State scored six runs in its half of the fifth, erasing a Nevada lead on the way to taking the series with a 9-2 victory Sunday.
The Pack (21-17, 13-8 MW) got an RBI single from
Landon Wallace in the seccond, and a sacrifice fly from
Jacob Stinson in the fifth, to take a 2-0 lead, with starter
Casey Burfield cruising through the first four innings. But San José State got to Burfield in its half of the fifth, setting the stage by loading the bases on a walk and two singles to start the frame.
Reece Hernandez doubled to right to drive in a pair and tie it up, then Jackson Forbes followed with a two-run double of his own to put the Spartans up, 4-2. Robert Hamchuk then went deep to left, the two-run shot giving San José State a 6-2 lead and ending the day for Burfield, who fell to 2-2 with the loss.
Spartan starter Aaron Eden left after the fifth, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, giving way to Darren Jansen, who went the final four innings to get his second save. Jansen allowed just two hits and struck out six to preserve Eden's sixth win of the season.
The Spartans (21-19, 11-10 MW) got a two-run homer from Nathan Cadena in the eighth, as Cadena capped a 3-for-4 day.
