Nevada falls last day of Dixie State Tournament

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Nevada softball falls against Weber State and Utah Valley to conclude the Dixie State Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Nevada 0 – Weber State 8

Freshman Ellie Garcia took the first loss of the day. Garcia gave up four hits and five runs (five earned). Sophomore Jana Pope came in to finish the game for the Pack. Pope played for four innings, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned), and struck out three players.

Offensively, the Pack was led by Chelie Senini, who recorded two hits in three batting appearances. Senini was followed by seniors Jessica Sellers and Danielle Lew tallied one hit each.

How it happened

Weber State took an early lead scoring five runs in the bottom of the first.

The Pack held the Wildcats offense for two innings before Weber State added one run in the fourth.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the fifth inning to win 8-0.

Nevada 3 – Utah Valley 7

Sophomore Blake Craft took the loss for the Pack. Craft gave up eight hits, four runs (four earned), and struck out one. Sophomore Tyra Clary came in to relief Craft after two innings. Clary gave up three hits, three runs (one earned), and struck out one.

The Pack offense recorded six hits and three RBI after freshman Aaliyah Jenkins hit her third home run of the season. Chelie Senini, Jessica Sellers, Charli Hawkins, Charli McLendon, and Danielle Lew tallied one hit each.

How it happened

Utah Valley started the game scoring two runs.

Nevada was able to leave the Wolverines scoreless in the second inning.

The Wolverines score two more runs in the top of the third.

The Pack scored a 3 RBI home run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Utah Valley responded with two additional runs to edge Nevada 7-3.

UP NEXT

Following this tournament, the Pack will stay on the road and travel to Stockton, Calif. to play at the Libby Matson Tournament Mar. 4-6. The Pack will face Idaho State and Seton Hall twice, and the host team Pacific.
