PHOENIX, Ariz. – Nevada baseball grabbed an early lead but a late charge by Grand Canyon put the Lopes over the Pack 15-4 in the series finale on Sunday at GCU Ballpark in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Pack falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss and the Lopes improve to 1-2 with the win. Nevada won two-of-three during the opening series of the 2022 season, scoring 28 runs in the process but the bullpen faltered late in Game 3 leading to the loss.

Dario Gomez got the Pack off to a good start with a solo home run in the first inning giving Nevada an early 1-0 lead.
Jacob Stinson homered to right-center in the third inning to extend the lead 2-0.

Joshua Zamora continues his hot start to the season with an RBI double to left-center in the third pushing the Pack further in front 3-0 through two and a half innings at GCU Ballpark.Â

Grand Canyon responded with two runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth to tie the game 3-3.

The Pack regained the lead in the fifth with a double down the left-field line by Gomez to score Stinson and put Nevada in front 4-3 but GCU answered back in the fifth with a run scored on a fielder's choice and a throwing error knotting the game back up 4-4.

Nevada's bats would go quiet for the remainder of the game and Grand Canyon scored 11 unanswered runs to salvage Game 3, 15-4.

Gomez finished a triple shy of the cycle during his 3-for-5 day with one double, one home run, a single, two runs scored, and two RBI. Zamora went 2-for-2 with one walk, one double, and one RBI. He finished the opening series hitting .667 (8-for-12) with two doubles, three home runs, and five RBI. Stinson went 2-for-4 and hit his first-career home run and hit .462 (6-13) with two RBI during the series.
Tyler Bosetti finished with one hit in four at-bats and
Patrick Caulfield went 1-for-3 with a walk.

The Pack left eight on base and recorded nine hits in 33 at-bats.
Casey Burfield (L, 0-1) takes the loss after allowing two earned runs during 1.2 innings pitched with two walks and one strikeout.

Nevada travels down the road to Arizona State on Tuesday, Feb. 22, to continue its trip in the desert. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
