Nevada falls on opening day

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Nevada softball drops both games on season opening day on Friday afternoon. The Pack started the day battling against UC San Diego to close out the day against the host team #3 UCLA.

Blake Craft recorded the loss for Nevada against UC San Diego. Craft gave up five runs and struck out two in three innings of work. Freshman Ellie Garcia stepped into the circle, struck out five in four innings, but gave up the other five runs on the top of the seventh. Nevada was led offensively by sophomore Sam Oliver and freshman Aaliyah Jenkins each tallied an RBI. Sophomore Chelie Senini recorded one hit and one stolen base.

Starting the second game of the day, Tyra Clary recorded the loss for Nevada against #3 UCLA. Clary gave up 10 runs and struck out two in two innings of work. Sophomore Jana Pope came out to relief Clary and struck out four but gave up two other runs on the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Alycia Coats and senior Danielle Lew tallied the only two hits for the Pack.

GAME 1

Nevada jumped to an early 2-0 lead on a pair of singles by Oliver and Jenkins in the first two innings.

UC San Diego picked up five runs in the third inning.

The Pack held the Tritons three-consecutive innings before UCSD add five more runs in the seventh inning to edge Nevada 10-2.

GAME 2

The Bruins jumped to an early start with a single home run in the first inning.

The Pack put a runner on the first base in the second inning but is not able to follow through.

UCLA picked up nine runs in the bottom of the second to put a 10-0 lead on the Pack.

Nevada was able to stop the Bruins in the third inning before UCLA add two runs in the fourth inning to edge Nevada 12-0.
