Bosetti lifts Nevada to 3-2 victory at San Jose State

Hit game-winning homer in 11th inning

San Jose, Calif. – Sophomore Tyler Bosetti was the hero for Nevada on Saturday afternoon, hitting a game-winning home run in the 11th inning to lift Nevada (27-24, 13-16 MW) over San Jose State (19-31, 12-14 MW) 3-2. With the win, the Wolf Pack took the series from the Spartans and will play its final Mountain West game of the regular season tomorrow at 12 p.m. as it goes for the sweep.

Bradley Bonnenfant (6-3) earned his team-high sixth win of the year, pitching the final 3.1 shutout innings while only allowing two hits. Freshman Owen Sharts earned the start, and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning while only surrendering one earned run.

The contest began like yesterday's, as both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings. Nevada came alive in the third, as the Pack plated two thanks to a throwing error by the Spartans and an RBI-single by Conor Allard that scored Joshua Zamora.

The Pack held the lead until the sixth, when the Spartans' Kellen Strahm blasted a two-run homer to tie the game. It was only the 10th home run for SJSU all season, ranking last in the conference.

In the eighth inning, the Spartans threated by loading the bases with two outs, but Bonnenfant came in and recorded his first of three strikeouts on the day to get Nevada out of the jam. A one, two, three inning pitched by the senior sent the game to extra innings.

San Jose State threatened again in the 10th frame, putting two runners in scoring position but a lineout to Allard at first base kept Nevada alive.

With two outs, Bosetti hit his fourth homer of the year in the 11th inning to give Nevada the 3-2 lead, which it would hold onto for the win. Nevada is now 5-1 in extra-inning games this season.

Tomorrow, Nevada will go for the sweep to stay in the running to make the MW tournament. John Ramey will call the action on 94.1 FM/1450 AM, with a live stream available on the Mountain West Network.
