Nevada falls to Fresno State in series opener


FRESNO, Calif. - The Nevada softball team moves to 21-15 on the year after a tough loss to Fresno State, 10-2 in five innings. The Pack is now 6-4 in conference play with two more against the Bulldogs this weekend. 

The team combined for four hits with Sierra Mello, Kenzi Goins, Dallas Millwood and Ashley Salausa each tallying one a piece. Millwood and Salausa both had extra base hits with doubles. 

Kendall Fritz started and pitched the first three innings but Rachel Rodriguez came in relief in the bottom of the fourth and pitched one inning. Fritz exited the circle with one strikeout but had seven earned runs, the freshman is now 8-6 on the season. 

Fresno State had two big innings with three runs scored early in the second inning to take the 3-0 lead. The Pack held them scoreless in the third but they answered with five runs in the third inning to put them up 8-0. 

Millwood, in the top of the fifth inning kept the game going with a two RBI double that scored Mello and Goins, 8-2, Fresno State. The Bulldogs put two more on in the bottom of the fifth to take the game, 10-2. 

The two teams meet again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. PT for the second game of the three-game series.
