Pack falls at Toledo to close non-conference play

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Mitchell Guadagni passed for four touchdowns and ran for two more and Toledo outscored Nevada 63-44 on Saturday.

Guadagni, a junior who took over starting duties this season, was 15-of-24 passing for 211 yards and rushed for 131 yards on 15 carries.

Cody Thompson caught three touchdown passes, one from Desmond Phillips, who took a handoff from Guadagni.

Diontae Johnson added two touchdowns, one on a catch and another on a 99-yard kickoff return. The Rockets' special teams also scored on a 9-yard return by Reggie Gilliam on a muffed punt.

Guadagni's 4-yard TD toss to Thompson gave Toledo (2-1) a 28-21 lead and Rockets led thereafter. The QB's 34-yard run made it 63-44 with 7:26 remaining.

Freshman Toa Tua rushed for 170 yards on 15 carries and three scores, including a 66-yarder, for the Wolf Pack (2-2). Ty Gangi threw for 320 yards and a score and also ran for a TD.

Postgame notes – Toledo

-True freshman Toa Taua ripped off a 31-yard TD run in the second quarter. That scoring drive went 93 yards, the Pack's longest TD scoring drive of the season.
-In the third quarter, Toa Taua recorded a 66-yard TD run, the longest rush of his career. It put him over 100 yards on the ground, the first Nevada back to do so this season. He finished the game with 170 rushing yards, a career high, and three rushing TDs. He is the second Nevada player to record three TDs in a game this season (McLane Mannix vs. Portland State).
-Junior WR Kaleb Fossum finished with a career-high 14 receptions, the most by a Nevada receiver this season. He recorded his second 100-yard receiving performance of the season as well with a career-high 150 yards. His 14 receptions are the most by a Nevada player since Brandon Wimberly had 15 against Air Force in 2013.
-Senior PK Ramiz Ahmed's 50-yard field goal is a career-long and is the longest made field goal by a Wolf Pack player since Brett Jaekle hit from 50 yards against UNLV in 2007.
-Nevada began the second half with three consecutive chuck plays of 20, 32 and 29 yards to open the second half with a touchdown run by junior RB Kelton Moore. The drive took 45 seconds.
-The Wolf Pack posted four scoring drives of under two minutes in the game, the quickest being one play, 66 yards after Toa Taua's TD run.
-Nevada's 262 rushing yards as a team is the most this season and the most since it put up 268 against Hawai'i last season.
-The blocked punt by the Rockets in the first quarter was the first blocked punt given up by Nevada since it played Toledo in Reno last September.
-The kickoff returned for a TD for Toledo was the first one given up by Nevada since the game at San Diego State last November.
-Senior DB Jomon Dotson has recorded turnovers in back-to-back games with an interception last week against Oregon State and a fumble recovery, the first of his career, in today's game.
-The 63 points surrendered by Nevada are the most it has given up since No. 13 Oregon scored 69 in September of 2011.
-Nevada totaled 582 yards of total offense, its second-most of the season, and out-gained Toledo 582-460.
-Junior DE Adam Lopez recorded his first career sack in the third quarter.
-Senior DB Justin Brent's strip sack in the third quarter was the first of his career.
-Sophomore WR Daiyan Henley made his first reception of the season in the first quarter that went for 34 yards.
-Sophomore TE Reagan Roberson made his first career start.
-Nevada finishes non-conference play at 2-2 and heads into Mountain West action next Saturday at Air Force.
-The all-time series between Nevada and Toledo is now 5-0, in favor of Toledo.
