RENO, Nev. – The 18
th ranked University of Nevada rifle team seeks to avenge a five-point loss at No. 17 UTEP on Saturday in El Paso, Texas. The Wolf Pack fell 4594-4589 to the Miners last week in the opener for both schools in Colorado Springs, Colo. as part of a three-team double dual match that included No. 2 Air Force.
"UTEP is a much improved team under a new and innovative head coach Austin Litherland," Nevada head coach
Fred Harvey said. "We look forward to shooting with them this weekend."
The inexperienced Wolf Pack lineup was led by senior
Mitchell Van Patten who posted the best scores for Nevada the opening weekend shooting 578 in smallbore to place fifth, was ninth in air rifle with a 585 and his aggregate score of 1163 placed eighth.
Veteran
Rachel Benesh was 17
th in smallbore with a score of 564 and 24
th in air rifle shooting 573.
Sophomore newcomer
Nadine Ahola, made her first appearance in the varsity lineup and shot 583 in air rifle to take 11
th and posted a 563 in smallbore to finished 18
th.
Three freshman shot for the first time at the collegiate level
Sara Benesh, Alex Patajo and
Tio Brody.
Sara Benesh was 13
th in the air rifle with 582 and did not compete in smallbore. Patajo was 20
th in air rifle with a score of 577 and Brody took 23rd in smallbore with a score of 556.
