RENO, Nev. – Fall camp is complete, which means it's time for the Nevada Wolf Pack volleyball squad to begin their season. The Pack will open the 2017 campaign at San Francisco, facing the Dons Friday and the Utah Valley Wolverines Saturday.
Friday's match, set for 7 p.m. PT, will be the 20th matchup between the two teams. It will be broadcast live on TheW.TV with live stats available at NevadaWolfPack.com. The Pack's weekend will end Saturday after facing the Wolverines at 2 p.m. The two teams haven't squared off since 2002, when Utah Valley won three sets to one.
This season marks the third under head coach
Lee Nelson, who has improved the program each year he's been here, most recently posting the first winning record (19-11, 10-8 in 2016) since the 2007 season. The Wolf Pack was slated to finish fifth by the Mountain West coaches this season, mirroring its finish from 2016.
The two early season matches will provide a good opportunity to see who will move into several vacancies left by last year's seniors, including starters in every position. Senior
Madison Foley and sophomore
Shayla Hoeft will return to their spot in the lineup, but the first matches of the year will help to determine the season's rotation. Look for sophomore setter
Dalyn Burns, junior middle
Peighton De Von, sophomore libero
Camille Davey and freshman
Sam Hayward to potentially round out the early group of starters.
