AUSTIN, Texas - A thousandth of a second. 0.001. Zero point zero zero one. That's all that stood between 100 meter hurdler Fiyin Olusola and her ticket to Eugene, Ore. Saturday night as the Nevada Wolf Pack track & field team wrapped up the NCAA West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas.
The senior did, however, break her own school record after crossing the finish line in 13.20 seconds. Olusola will finish her collegiate career as the fastest hurdler to ever compete in a Wolf Pack uniform, holding the program record in both the 100m and 60m hurdles.
She barely missed out on her trip to the NCAA Finals after taking fourth in her heat, just outside of the automatic qualifying spot of third. She tied with Minnesota's Emma Spagnola, but, after the breakdown, Spagnola logged a 13.193 compared to Olusola's 13.194. Olusola would take 13th overall in the quarterfinal round.
Nevada will be represented by seniors Nicole Wadden in the heptathlon and Emily Myers in the 3000m steeplechase at the final round in Eugene, scheduled for June 7-10. The meet will be broadcast live on the ESPN family of networks. It is the first time the Wolf Pack will be represented by individuals since the 2011 season. The Pack's 4x100m relay team earned a spot in 2013.
