BERKELEY, Calif. - Several members of the Wolf Pack track & field team put on strong showings at the Cal Outdoor Opener Saturday, getting a strong start to the outdoor season.
In her first race since recovering from stage four cancer, senior Erika Root raced the best 2000 meter steeplechase of her life. Her personal record time of 7:07.49 earned her the victory on the day at set the stadium standard in Edwards Stadium.
Senior Nicole Wadden got off to an incredibly strong start for her last outdoor season. The multi athlete leaped for a new personal record in the high jump, taking first with a mark of 5 feet and 9.25 inches (1.76m).
Senior Kadeisha Hield continued what was been a solid final campaign. She picked up the win in the long jump with her mark of 18 feet and nine inches (5.71m). Continuing with the track events, sophomore Lindsey Adams recorded a personal record in the 1500 meter, crossing the line in 4:37 flat. She took fourth.
The javelin proved to be a highlight for the Pack on Saturday as Nevada throwers claimed the top two spots. Junior Savanna Haverfield topped the comepetition as she threw for 137 feet and 2 inches (41.81m). Freshman Zoe Fitch followed right behind her in second with a heave of 135 feet and 9 inches (41.38m).
The Pack will return the the track almost immediately, heading to Davis, Calif. for the Aggie Open Saturday.
