RENO, Nev. - Junior third baseman Jordan Pearce hit a grand slam and drove in five to power the Nevada (7-17, 4-8 MW) baseball team past Air Force (10-13, 2-10 MW) 9-8 at Peccole Park on Sunday afternoon. The Wolf Pack won its first series of the season taking two of the three Mountain West games this weekend.

The Pack improved to 7-17 and 4-8 in MW play while the Falcons dropped to 10-13 and 2-10 in conference play. Next action for Nevada is Tuesday at 1 p.m. when San Francisco (13-11) comes to Peccole Park.

Trailing 6-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, Nevada got RBI hits from Cole Krzmarzick and Keaton Smith to close within a pair. Pearce then delivered a two-out grand slam to put the Pack up to stay 8-6.

AF scored a run in the top of the sixth to close within a run at 8-7. The Pack scratched out a run in the bottom of the eighth when Mike Echavia's sacrifice fly scored Smith who started the inning with a double.

In the top of the ninth the Falcons scored a run and had runners at first and second with one down. After doing it with his bat, Pearce used his glove to seal the victory starting a 5-3 double play to end the game.

The Falcons jumped to a 4-0 lead in the game, scoring once in the third and three times in the fourth. Nevada got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the AF lead in half. Dillian Schrum and Pearce had RBI singles in the inning. AF got the two runs back in the top of the fifth but Nevada responded with a six-run bottom of the fifth to move in front to stay.

Pack freshman Riley Ohl (2-1) earned his second win of the season allowing seven runs on 12 hits in six innings on the mound. Senior Evan McMahon (2) recorded his second save of the season recording the final two outs of the game. AF reliever Jake Gilbert (1-1) suffered the loss giving up two runs.

In addition to Pearce collecting three hits, Krzmarzick (2-for-4,2R,RBI) and Smith (2-for-4,2R,RBI) had two each. Bradley Haslam (3-for-5,R) and Drew Wiss (3-for-4,R) had three hits apiece for the Falcons.
