STOCKTON, Calif. - After finding itself in a battle between two pitchers on Friday night, the Nevada softball team fell to San Jose State on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-0. Heading into Sunday's final game of the opening weekend of conference play, the Wolf Pack sits at 14-12 on the season and a 0-2 start in MW games.
The Spartans (19-9, 2-0 MW) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run home run but the Pack didn't back down from the challenge as the team continued to fight in the top half of the third. Making just the third start of her collegiate career, freshman Sienna Swain drew a walk to become Nevada's second baserunner of the day.
However, the Pack struggled to move her into scoring position and finished the inning unable to score any runs. Over the course of the next three innings, San Jose State would cross the plate six more times to seal the 8-0 victory over the Pack.
Nevada will be back on the field on Sunday in the final matchup of the three-game series against San Jose State with the first-pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. PT.
