RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada baseball team (3-11, 1-4 MW) lost their series vs. San Diego State (10-5, 2-0 MW) 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at Peccole Park. The Wolf Pack will take on the Aztecs on Sunday for the final game of the weekend.
The Aztecs got the scoring started early, plating three runs in the first two innings to take an early 3-0 lead over the Wolf Pack. Two of those RBIs came from the bat of Alan Trejo, who batted 3-5 on the day.
San Diego State got off to a hot start, putting up two runs in the first inning. Tyler Adkison had a huge day for the Aztecs, going 4-4 with five RBIs, three of those coming from two home runs. By the sixth inning, SDSU held a 6-0 lead over the Wolf Pack.
Nevada finally found some offense in the seventh inning, when Chase Grant scored Mike Echavia on a fielder's choice and Kaleb Foster hit a sacrifice fly that scored Cole Krzmarzick to make the game 6-2. Adkison tallied his fifth RBI when he hit a solo shot to center field to give the Aztecs a 7-2 lead.
Mike Echavia hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth, but Nevada's rally fell short and the game ended with a 7-3 victory for the Aztecs. Nevada hit .324 on the day, but only went 3-13 with runners on base. San Diego State went 11-36 at the plate and hit .222 with runners on.
Mark Nowaczewski suffered the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season after pitching 5.1 innings allowing six runs on eight hits. Dominic Purpura upheld his perfect record after earning the win, pitching 6.1 innings and only allowing two runs on nine hits.
