HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Junior outfielder
Cole Krzmarzick staked the Nevada baseball team to a 2-0 lead with his second home run of the season in the top of the first inning but that would be all the offensive for the Wolf Pack as they fell 8-2 at No. 23 Sam Houston State on Sunday. The Pack is now 1-2 on the season while the Bearkats improved to 2-1 after winning the three-game series.
With two out in the first, third baseman
Jordan Pearce singled and he scored on the Krzmarzick homer and the Pack led 2-0. SHSU scored eight unanswered runs to win 8-2. The Bearkats got a single run in the second then took the lead with two in fourth. They added runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to complete the scoring.
Freshman
Grant Ford (0-1) suffered the loss allowing three runs on four hits in his four innings on the mound. In total Nevada used six pitchers in the game. Hayden Wesneski (1-0) earned the win giving up just the two runs in 5.2 innings.
Pearce (2-for-4), Krzmarzick (2-for-4, HR) and
Mike Echavia (2-for-4) all collected two hits on the day as the Pack collected nine hits in the game. Krzmarzick's home run accounted for both of Nevada's runs.
