RENO, Nev. – After a week off the 14
th ranked University of Nevada rifle team returns to action traveling to West Point, N.Y. to compete against No. 11 Army on Friday. The Wolf Pack are 4-1 on the season while the Black Knights stand at 1-4. Friday's match is a meeting of two teams ranked in the top 15 of the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll.
"We are shooting with a young Army team already among the top teams nationally," head coach
Fred Harvey said. "The range is one of the finest in the world. It will be another great match."
The Pack have used the same lineup this season comprised of seniors Emily Capual and
Justin Nissen along with junior
Mitchell Van Patten. Underclassmen
Rachel Benesh and
Eli Larimer complete the top five. Senior
Sarah Jameson remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Van Patten has posted the top scores on the team in smallbore (585) and aggregate (1176) while his 593 in air rifle is second. Benesh shot 594 in air rifle at home against UTEP which is the top score on the squad. Her 1173 aggregate score ranks second and 582 in smallbore is third.
Nissen's 583 in smallbore is second best on the Pack. His 591 in air rifle is tied for third and 1171 aggregate is third. Capaul's 578 smallbore and 1165 aggregate is fourth on the squad and 589 in air rifle ranks fifth. Larimer is tied for third with his 591 in air rifle. He is ranked fifth in smallbore (577) and aggregate (1163).
