RENO, Nev. – The 13
th ranked University of Nevada rifle team knocked off No. 5 Ohio State 4661-4614 in a Patriot Rifle Conference match this weekend. The Wolf Pack outshot the Buckeyes 2317-2291 in Saturday's smallbore and 2344-2323 on Sunday in the air rifle competition.
Nevada hosts UTEP on Saturday and Sunday, the Pack defeated the Miners 4677-4581 in the first match of the season. The 4677 is a school record.
The Pack had four of the top five scores in small bore and three of the top four in small bore.
Sophomore
Rachel Benesh won the air rifle shooting 591 and was second in small bore with a 582. Benesh's 1173 aggregate score, that combines the two events was tops in the competition. The 1173 is a person best.
Pack senior
Justin Nissen's 583 in small bore topped the field and his 1165 aggregate scored ranked third. Junior
Mitchell Van Patten earned third in the air rifle (586), tied for fourth in the small bore (576), and was fourth with an aggregate of 1162.
Senior
Emily Capaul tied for fourth with a 584 in air rifle while sophomore
Eli Larimer was sixth with a 583.
OSU was led by Elizabeth Dutton who was second in air rifle (588), third in small bore (578) and second with a 1166 aggregate.
