RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada rifle team travels to Air Force to compete in a top 10 matchup of two Patriot Rifle Conference teams on Saturday. In the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll the Falcons and Wolf Pack are tied for seventh.
Nevada (3-1) will look to rebound after dropping its first match of the season 4692-4662 at No. 8 Ohio State last weekend.
"It will be a great contest at Air Force," head coach
Fred Harvey said. "We are evenly matched and have a long history with the Falcons."
The Pack have used the same lineup this season comprised of seniors Emily Capual and
Justin Nissen along with junior
Mitchell Van Patten. A pair underclassmen round out the top five in sophomores
Rachel Benesh and
Eli Larimer. Senior
Sarah Jameson remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Van Patten has posted the top scores on the team in smallbore (585) and aggregate (1176) while his 593 in air rifle is second. Benesh shot 594 in air rifle at home against UTEP which is the top score on the squad. Her 1173 aggregate score ranks second and 582 in smallbore is third.
Nissen's 583 in smallbore is second best on the Pack. His 591 in air rifle is tied for third and 1171 aggregate is third. Capaul's 578 smallbore and 1165 aggregate is fourth on the squad and 589 in air rifle ranks fifth. Larimer is tied for third with his 591 in air rifle. He is ranked fifth in smallbore (577) and aggregate (1163).
