RENO, Nev. – The eighth ranked University of Nevada rifle team dominated No. 20 UTEP at home this weekend to remain perfect after three weeks of competition. The 3-0 Wolf Pack won the two-day match 4656-4566 and will head to Ohio State next weekend to compete against the No. 7 Buckeyes.
In Saturday's smallbore the Pack posted the top five scores to outscore the Miners 2295-2260. Sunday Nevada also posted the top five individual scores in air rifle to win the event 2361-2306. Five Wolf Pack shooters had the top five aggregate scores that combines the two events.
Sophomore
Rachel Benesh set a personal record with 594 in air rifle to win the event after winning last week with a 591. The 594 is also the top score on the team this season. Her 572 in smallbore was third in the event. Her combined score in the two events of 1166 was tops this weekend.
Pack senior
Justin Nissen continues his outstanding season posting the top smallbore score of 576 and was third in air rifle with a 589. His 1165 aggregate score was second.
Another of the Pack seniors,
Emily Capaul tied Nissen for the top smallbore score of 576 but lost the tiebreaker. Capaul's 586 in air rifle was fifth and 1162 aggregate ranked third.
Sophomore
Eli Larimer shot his season high with a 591 in air rifle that also tied his career high. The 591 is tied for the second best score on the team this season was second to Benesh's 594 this weekend. His 1160 aggregate score was fourth.
The lone junior in the top five Pack shooters, Eli Van Patten was fourth in smallbore (571) and air rifle (587). Van Patten's aggregate score of 1158 was fifth.
