RENO, Nev. - Highlighting day one of the UW Invitational and Multis, the Nevada Wolf Pack Distance medley relay team ran the fourth-fastest time in program history Friday evening.
Senior Sidney Root got things off to a hot start, staying up with runners from elite teams like Stanford and Cal. She handed the baton off to junior Brittany Graves, who didn't back off the Pack's solid pace. Redshirt freshman Eliza McCall ran a solid 800, and junior Meagan Wood carried the baton across the finish line, showing speed and strong racing skills in her mile. The team logged a time of 11:50.09, putting them fourth on the Nevada all-time list in just their first DMR of the season.
Two freshmen took to the pole vault pit on Friday in Gaby Palmer and Emily Etter. Palmer came very close to her collegiate best, jumping 10 feet and 7 inches (3.23m). Etter put on yet another strong performance as one of the last vaulters in the flight, finishing at 12 feet and an inch (3.53m). Friday night was just the first flight of the event, so final placings will not be known until Saturday.
The majority of the Pack will compete on Saturday in a full day of sprints, distance races, jumps, throws and more.
