FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team (0-1) lost its first game of the season as it was beaten on the road by Cal State Fullerton 5-2. This is the second season in a row in which Nevada has started its season 0-1.
The Wolf Pack lost the doubles point, going 1-2 in its three matches against the Titans. The second match was the first to finish, where Milena Achlamov/Adriana Gergelyova were defeated 6-2. Claudia Herrero, who is currently ranked #66 in the NCAA by the International Tennis Association, played with freshman Carlijn Ketting in the third match, and got the only doubles victory for the Wolf Pack winning 6-3. The last match to finish was the #1 doubles match, where Blaga Delic and Sheila Morales were defeated 6-3.
In singles competition, matches #4, and #5 were the first two to finish, both resulting in a Wolf Pack loss. Blaga Delic was defeated by Karla Portalatin 6-3, 6-4, and Milena Achlamov lost to Masako Makiba in a close match the whole way finishing 7-6 (2-0), 7-5.
One of Nevada's two wins came from the racquet of Sheila Morales against Sarah Nuno, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sheila is currently ranked #73 by the ITA.
Nevada lost two of the last three matches, with their only victory coming from Carlijn Ketting when she was victorious over Milena Achlamov in straight sets 6-2, 2-6.
Nevada's match against UC Irvine set for Sunday was canceled due to weather. The Wolf Pack lost its last match up against Irvine 4-3 during the 2010-11 season.
