RENO, Nev. -- Sophomore TJ Friedl was named to the All-Mountain West first team while a trio of Nevada baseball players earned all-conference honors, the Mountain West announced on Wednesday. Friedl, junior Miles Mastrobuoni and sophomore Jordan Pearce each earned league recognition.
Friedl, Mastrobuoni and Pearce each tallied their first career All-Mountain West honors. In addition to being recognized for tremendous individual efforts, the trio were honored for leading Nevada (33-22, 20-10) to a second place finish in the MW despite being tabbed sixth in the preseason coaches poll.
A sophomore center fielder, Friedl ranks second in the conference and 21st in the nation with a .391 batting average. The Pleasanton, Calif., native redshirted last season and took the conference by storm this year, posting 79 hits, 60 runs and 27 RBI. His batting average ranks fourth in the nation among underclassmen. Friedl leads the conference in on base percentage and runs scored and also ranks second in the nation in triples.
In his first season at Nevada after transferring from the College of San Mateo, Mastrobuoni was named to the All-Mountain West second team. The second baseman from Livermore, Calif., batted .362 this season with 75 hits, 48 runs and 37 RBI. Mastrobuoni also led the team and ranked second in the MW with 15 stolen bases. Additionally, he posted a .983 fielding percentage with just four errors.
Pearce -- a first baseman from Oceanside, Calif. -- was also named to the All-Mountain West second team. Pearce batted .297 on the year with 54 hits, 30 runs and a team-best 38 RBI. Pearce was stellar in conference play, leading all first basemen with a .353 batting average in league play.
Nevada opens to the 2016 Mountain West Championship today at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, N.M., playing at 6 p.m. PT. The Wolf Pack will play the winner of the play-in game between San Diego State and San Jose State.
