RENO, Nev. - The third-seeded Nevada baseball team is set to open the postseason this week at the 2016 Mountain West Championships, May 25-29. The conference tournament will be hosted by New Mexico at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Wolf Pack (33-22, 20-10) will open the tournament on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT, taking on the win-ner of the play-in game between sixth-seeded San Diego State (19-36, 11-19) and seventh-seeded San Jose State (17-38, 7-23).
With a victory, Nevada would meet second-seeded New Mexico (35-21, 20-10) at 6 p.m. on Thursday. With a loss, Nevada would play the loser of the No. 4 UNLV (24-30, 14-16) and No. 5 Air Force (28-25, 12-18) game at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Nevada is playing in the MW Championships for the fourth time in program history. Nevada is 4-6 all-time in the MW tournament. This is the first time Nevada will be playing in the tournament as the No. 3 seed.

LEADING OFF
• First-year head coach T.J. Bruce and the Wolf Pack took the Mountain West by surprise this season after being voted sixth in the Preseason MW Coaches Poll. Nevada took its conference title fight into the last week of the season before finishing tied for second in league standings with a 20-10 confer-ence record. Nevada earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
• Nevada is the hottest team in the conference after posting a 16-2 overall record in its last 18 games. The Pack also posted a 12-2 record in its final 14 conference games, improving from fifth to second in league standings. Nevada's impressive record down the stretch included an 11-game win streak, which marked Nevada's longest streak in 20 seasons.
• During Nevada's impressive 16-2 streak to close the regular season, Nevada is batting .357 as a team while all nine of its position starters are batting at least .297 during that stretch.
• The Wolf Pack is 4-6 all-time in the Mountain West Championships. Nevada went 1-2 in 2013, 3-2 in 2014 and 0-2 in 2015.
• Nevada is the only team in the Mountain West to rank in the top three in league standings in all three major statistical categories. The Pack leads the MW in fielding percentage (.975), ranks second in pitching (4.99) and ranks third in batting average (.307).
• Sophomore TJ Friedl ranks second in the Mountain West and 21st in the nation with a .391 batting average.
• Nevada will be playing for an NCAA Regional berth, looking for a MW Tournament title to gain an au-tomatic bid. Nevada has been to four NCAA Regionals in program history (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000).
