RENO, Nev. - After tossing the first one-hitter in recent program history, junior RHP Trevor Charpie has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. It marks Charpie's first weekly career honor and the second for Nevada this season.
Charpie was honored for his historic performance in Saturday's 5-0 shutout victory against San Diego State at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The 6-foot-1 righty tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout for the Wolf Pack (23-20, 18-3). In nine innings, Charpie allowed no runs on one hit, two walks and two hit by pitch with one strikeout.
One hit allowed is the fewest Nevada has ever allowed in Mountain West play and the fewest overall since April 17, 2010 in a shutout victory against Seattle. Charpie led the Pack to its first shutout of the season while also pitching the first complete game shutout since Jason Deitrich against San Jose State on May 22, 2014. One hit allowed is also the fewest in the Mountain West this season.
Charpie's efforts helped Nevada post a series sweep at San Diego State while improving their win streak to five games. Charpie lowers his ERA to 4.04 while improving to 4-3. Charpie has tossed two complete games this season.
Nevada returns to action this Tuesday at Pacific. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. PT at Klein Family Field in Stockton, Calif.
