Day two results

CLOVIS, Calif. - With a new personal best of 5,508 points in the heptathlon, Nevada junior Nicole Wadden captured the silver medal in the event at the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

This is Wadden's first silver medal in the event after she took home the bronze at last year's outdoor conference championships. In addition to her silver medal in the heptathlon, she won gold in the pentathlon earlier this season at the indoor conference championships. Her point total is the second-best in program history, breaking her own previous mark of 5,317 points.

The heptathlon came down to the wire as Wadden entered the final event, the 800m, trailing eventual champion Jessica Green of Colorado State by just 95 points. Wadden did what she needed to in that event, winning the race with a time of 2:16.76 and earning herself 868 points. However, Green placed fourth in the 800m securing her heptathlon title. Wadden fell just 44 points back of Green for the gold medal.

Wadden PR'd in the other two of Thursday's three events the long jump and the javelin, which she also earned third place finishes for. In the long jump she leapt to a mark of 18'9.75" (5.73m), which is the 10th best mark in program history and is the 11th best mark in the conference this season. For the javelin she threw for a mark of 119'8" (36.47m).

Fellow junior Katelin Westerterp also concluded her heptathlon competition, placing 17th. Westerterp earned 3,772 points for her seven events. Her best finish of the two-day event came in the final event, the 800m. Westerterp took an early lead in the race and crossed the line in fifth with a time of 2:21.52.

Also on the docket Thursday evening was the running of the women's 10,000m which featured senior Anna Preciado and redshirt freshman Marissa Suan. Suan finished one spot ahead of her teammate in ninth place with a time of 38:22.22 while Preciado collected 10th place after crossing the finish line in 38:27.72.

Nevada will continue the conference championships with a bulk of events beginning on Friday, starting with junior Kadeisha Hield in the women's long jump at 4 p.m.
