RENO, Nev. -Two teams jockeying for second place in the Mountain West will face off at Hixson Park this weekend as the Nevada softball team welcomes San Jose State for a three-game series this weekend.
First pitch for Friday's game is set for 4 p.m., Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Sunday's contest will kick-off at 12 p.m.
This weekend's matchup at Hixson Park pits the top offense and the top pitching staff in the conference. The Spartans hit .328 as a team while the Wolf Pack's trio of Brooke Bolinger,
McKenna Isenberg and Chase Redington combine to post an ERA of 2.49. The Pack enters the game with an RPI of 87, the third-best in the MW, while the Spartans' RPI is 98.
Fans that wear pink to the ballpark on Saturday will get in for free. Saturday will also be $1 hot dog day at Hixson.
Megan Sweet BREAKS HOME RUN RECORD AT UNLV
• Senior Megan Sweet's two home runs in the rubber match of the Wolf Pack's three-game series at UNLV moved her into first place in program history with 35 career round trippers.
• The record had been held by Brittany Puzey, who had 34 career home runs, since 2009.
• Both home runs were key for the Pack in its 14-13 win over the Rebels as the first home run kicked-off a five-run inning and the second blast extended Nevada's lead to 14-11 in the top of the seventh.
WOLF PACK TAKES GOVERNOR'S SERIES POINTS AWAY FROM THE REBELS
• The Nevada softball team tied up the Governor's Series sponsored by NV Energy and Barrick Gold at 13.5 points apiece after taking two-out-of-three from UNLV last weekend.
• Freshman Brooke Bolinger shut out the Rebels, 6-0, in the first game of the series before the Pack took a wild rubber-match on Sunday, 14-13.
• Sophomore Jennifer Purcell hit .556 with two doubles and senior Megan Sweet hit two home runs with eight RBI over the three games.
