LONG BEACH, Calif. - On the final day of competition in a four day stretch, throwers Brandi French and Tara Park showed some grit in both the shot put and discus.
Freshman French threw for a second personal record in as many days after also competing in the shot put at Mt. SAC Friday afternoon. French threw for a mark of 47 feet and 6.5 inches in the Beach Invitational shot put, moving her up a spot on the Nevada outdoor all-time list. French now sits at sixth in Nevada history.
After struggling out of the gates in the first part of the outdoor season, Tara Park had the throw of her season and nearly the throw of her career in the discus. Park got back to the basics in her time off the past two weeks. Planning to incorporate the more complicated technique closer to competition, the sophomore's strategy paid off with a throw of 148 feet and 11 inches. Saturday's mark was less than three feet from the California native's personal record and was a season's best by more than 10 feet.
The Nevada Wolf Pack track & field squad will keep working through the regular season as they are not less than a month away from the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, set to be held in the middle of May in Clovis, Calif.
