SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Nevada (8-9, 1-2 MW) women's tennis team lost its final Mountain West road match 6-1 at San Jose State (10-9, 2-2 MW) today at the Spartan Courts. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 8-9 on the season and 1-2 in MW action. The Spartans improved to 10-9 and 2-2 in conference play.
Nevada concludes the regular season on Saturday hosting Fresno State (16-8, 3-0 MW) at 10:30 a.m. for Senior Day. Monika Magusiak is the Pack's lone senior.
SJSU won the #1 and #3 doubles matches to secure the team point. In the #1 doubles match the Pack's 75th ranked duo of Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic lost 7-5 to Marie Klocker and Sybille Gauvain. The loss snapped a nine match win streak.
Nevada's #2 doubles team of Claudia Herrero and Adriana Gergelyova won for the 10th consecutive time downing Marine Dans and Miyo Kobayashi 7-5. Magusiak and Sara Korzeniecki lost 6-3 on court 2 to Gaelle Rey and Justine Deleval.
In singles the Spartans took five of the six matches to win 6-1. Gergelyova earned the Pack's point with a 7-6, 7-5 victory at #3 singles.
Herrero's nine match win streak was snapped falling 6-1, 6-1 to Gauvain on court 1. She was looking to tie Tracy King's (1990-91) school record of 24 singles wins in a season. Her current 23 is tied with Maria Mizyuk (2006-07) and Michelle Okhremchuk (2012-13 & 2013-14) for second on the single season victories list. Okhremchuk posted 23 wins in back-to-back seasons.
