DAVIS, Calif. - The University of Nevada (8-8) women's tennis team lost its final nonconference regular season match 5-2 at UC Davis (10-9) today at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. After winning seven in a row the Wolf Pack has lost its last two leaving them 8-8 on the season. The Aggies improved to 10-9.
Nevada plays its final regular season road match at San Jose State (9-9, 1-2 MW). The Pack is 1-1 in MW action while the Spartans is 2-1.
The Pack won the #1 and #2 doubles matches to earn the team point. Nevada's #1 and 75th ranked doubles team of Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic won 7-5 over Tiffany Pham and Alex Huie. It was their ninth consecutive win as they improved to 19-8 on the season. The 19 wins is the third best season in school history and their 35 career doubles wins ranks second.
The #2 doubles team of Claudia Herrero and Adriana Gergelyova also won for the ninth consecutive time downing Kristy Jorgensen and Lani-Rae Green 7-5. They are 14-6 on the season. The 14 wins is tied for the eighth best season at Nevada.
UCD won five of the six singles matches to earn the 5-2 victory.
Herrero won her ninth consecutive singles match to improve to 23-4 on the season. She defeated Lani-Rae Green in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). The 23 wins is tied for the second most in a season at Nevada.
Herrero is tied with Maria Mizyuk (2006-07) and Michelle Okhremchuk (2012-13 & 2013-14) for second on the single season victories list. Okhremchuk posted 23 wins in back-to-back seasons. Tracy King (1990-91) holds the school with her 24 wins in a single season.
