SAN DIEGO - The University of Nevada (8-6, 1-0) women's tennis team started Mountain West play with a 4-3 victory at San Diego State (6-12, 0-1 MW) on Friday. The Wolf Pack winners of its last seven, improved to 8-6 and while the Aztecs dropped to 6-12.
Next action for the Pack is April 10 when intrastate rival UNLV comes to Reno for a Governor's Series match at 11 a.m.
The Pack won the #1 and #2 doubles matches to earn the first team point. Blaga Delic and Sheila Morales clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court one. Adriana Gergelyova and Claudia Herrero won 6-4 at #2 doubles.
In #6 singles SDSU's Taylor Lederman defeated Delaney Phanco 6-2, 6-0 to tie the score at 1-1. Gergelyova's 6-4, 6-4 victory on court two coupled with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory by Morales at #2 singles put the Pack in front 3-1. Morales has won 11 in a row to improve to 16-4 on the season.
Delic lost in three sets at #4 singles as the Aztecs closed within a point, 3-2. Herrero's 21st win of the season came in three sets 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-3 at #1 singles gave the Pack its fourth point to clinch the victory. She has won her last seven matches and is now 21-4 on the season. Nevada's Monika Magusiak fell in three sets on court five to make the final score 4-3.
