RENO, Nev. - Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, sophomore Amanda Nicholas smacked a game-tying two-run home run and freshman Kwynn Warner won the game on a solo shot to left center to clinch a 4-3 win for the Wolf Pack at Hixson Park on Thursday.
The game-winning home run was Warner's second of the day after tying the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth for the Wolf Pack (20-5). Freshman Brooke Bolinger improved to 9-2 with the victory after tossing a complete game with three strikeouts.
After the Broncos took a 3-1 lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run, junior Melissa Arriaga led-off the inning with a walk. Nicholas followed and was up 2-1 in the count when she rocketed an inside pitch down the left field line that hooked around the foul pole to tie the game up at 3-3.
With two outs in the inning, Warner looked to end the game and did so with an opposite field shot to left field center field.
Bolinger worked a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second and led-off the top of the third with a strikeout. With a runner on first and two out in the inning, the runner took off for second but was thrown out by Nicholas to end the threat.
After Boise State took a 1-0 lead in the top of fourth, the Pack tied the game with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fifth for her third home run of the season.
