MORAGA, Calif. - Senior Zach Wilkins pitched five scoreless innings before Saint Mary's broke a scoreless stalemate late as Nevada (5-11) fell, 6-1, Tuesday at Luis Guisto Field.
Wilkins fell to 2-2 on the season despite allowing just two hits and no runs in first five frames as the game was deadlocked at zeros. The Gaels (9-7) responded with two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to down the Wolf Pack, who falls to 1-7 in road games this season.
Nevada was held to a season-low three hits, plating one run in the eighth inning. Sophomore Cole Krzmarzick led Nevada with a hit and the team's lone run, while sophomore TJ Friedl added one hit and an RBI. Wilkins struck out three while allowing four hits and two runs in 5.0 innings pitched.
The Gaels broke the game open in the sixth inning with a pair of leadoff base runners before Nevada relieved Wilkins with senior RHP Alex Lott. With two runners in scoring position, Saint Mary's scored the game's first run on a balk and added another with an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
Saint Mary's added to its advantage in the seventh frame, plating one run on a fielder's choice before Nate Nolan hit a three-run home run to make it 6-0.
Nevada scored one run in the eighth inning as Krzmarzick drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on junior Justin Bridgman's single and scored on a fielder's choice from Friedl. The Wolf Pack couldn't pull any closer, falling to 0-7 this season when being held to two runs or less.
Nevada returns to Peccole Park, March 18-20, for a three-game series against St. John's. First pitch times between the Wolf Pack and Red Storm (6-7-1) are set for 4 p.m. PT Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be the first meeting in program history between the two ball clubs.
