RENO, Nev. - A week of altered travel plans and cancellations brings the Nevada softball team to its 2016 home opener, a doubleheader against Sacramento State starting at 1 p.m. at Hixson Park on March 16. The Wolf Pack (14-3) was last in action against on March 4 in Sacramento where it split a doubleheader with the Hornets.
Sacramento State snapped the Pack's 12-game win streak in the second game of their doubleheader. Freshman Brooke Bolinger tossed a complete game with no earned runs and senior Megan Sweet went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 3-1 victory over the Hornets in game one.
STRONG PITCHING GETS NEVADA OFF TO HOT START
• The Wolf Pack's strong start in non-conference action can be attributed to its strong pitching staff, who lead the Mountain West and rank 18th in the country with a 2.59 ERA
• McKenna Isenberg, Brooke Bolinger and Chase Redington have also combined to lead the conference with a .250 opponent's batting average and 90 strikeouts.
Nevada is off to the best start in program history and is two wins shy of tying the program record for consecutive wins as the Pack rides an 11-game winning streak.
WOLF PACK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
• Nevada ranks third in hitting and first in pitching in the Mountain West through the early months of the season.
• The new and improved Wolf Pack pitching staff lead the conference with an ERA of 2.59 and 90 strikeouts.
• After hitting .500 at the SCU Invitational, sophomore Jennifer Purcell ranks second in the league with six doubles and third with a .617 slugging percentage.
• Junior Raquel Martinez has also gotten off to a strong start as ranks in the top 10
