FORT WORTH, Texas - The 13th ranked University of Nevada rifle team fell 4687-4633 to #5 Alaska in a dual on Thursday. The Wolf Pack and Nanooks competed at the TCU Rifle Range in preparation for the Patriot Rifle Championships that get underway on Saturday at the same facility.
"The PRC championships are among the best in the nation. The PRC has four of the top eight teams and all six teams in the top 20," head coach Fred Harvey said. "The PRC Championship results will provide a great preview of the NCAA Qualifier as well as the NCAA Championships."
The Nanooks won the air rifle competition 2363-2340. Pack freshman Mitchell Van Patten finished second with a score of 579, four points back of Alaska's Sagen Maddalena. Sophomore Emily Capaul shot 584 to finish sixth. Sarah Jameson and Niki Silveria both shot 581 to place eighth and ninth respectively. Greta Ochsner was 10th with a 580.
In the smallbore competition Alaska shot 2324 and the Wolf Pack 2293. Van Patten was fourth with a score of 579. Ochsner took fifth with a score of 575. Jameson shot 572 to finish seventh and Silveria was 10th with a score of 568.
Van Patten posted the third best aggregate score of the match with a 1173. Ochsner's 1155 was sixth and Jameson's 1153 placed her seventh.
