RENO, Nev. – The Nevada baseball team looks to reach a milestone at its beloved home ballpark on Tuesday, eyeing win No. 500 in William Peccole Park’s history. The Wolf Pack boasts an all-time record of 499-240 (.675) in 28 seasons at Peccole Park.
After opening the 2016 season with an eight-game road trip in the span of 10 days, the Wolf Pack is ready for its home opener on Tuesday. Nevada (3-5) hosts Santa Clara (5-3) at 3 p.m. PT at Peccole Park. Tickets are just $2 and can be purchased in advance by calling (775) 348-PACK or at the ticket window prior to first pitch.
Home to Wolf Pack baseball since 1988, William Peccole Park has grown into one of the premier college baseball facilities on the west coast. The ballpark has undergone three expansion or renovation projects over the years. Currently, Peccole Park features a seating capacity of 3,000 fans. The stadium also boasts Nevada’s locker room facility, two bullpens, a batting cage, concession stands, restrooms and a media-friendly press box.
The facility is named in honor of William Peccole (1913-1999), a University of Nevada graduate who donated substantial funds to construct and expand the field.
Peccole Park is also home to one of the top home-field advantages in college baseball. The Pack has a winning percentage of 67.5 in 28 seasons at Peccole with an all-time record of 499-240. Only twice in the ballpark’s 28-year history has Nevada failed to post a winning record at home. Nevada averages 17.8 wins per season at Peccole Park compared to just 8.5 losses.
In its first season at Peccole, the Wolf Pack posted a 17-12 home record in the park’s debut. Nevada made history in 1992 with the program’s first and only undefeated home season with a remarkable 27-0 record at Peccole Park. Last season, Nevada was also dominant at home with a 22-6 record.
Tuesday’s home opener will be the first of 23 games to be played at Peccole Park this year. Season tickets are still available and can be purchase online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
