RENO, Nev. - Riding a three-game winning streak, the Nevada baseball team returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at UC Irvine from Feb. 26-29 before its home opener against Santa Clara on Tuesday, March 1 at Peccole Park.
First pitch times between the Wolf Pack (3-2) and Anteaters (2-3) are set for 6 p.m. PT Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Friday and Sunday's games will be carried on 1060 AM, while an online radio feed will be available for all three games as Alex Margulies is on the call.
This will be the first meeting between Nevada and UC Irvine since March 17, 2012. The Wolf Pack trails in the series history, 8-15-0. Sunday's game will cap a stretch of eight road games in 10 days for Nevada.
The Wolf Pack's home-opener is set for Tuesday, March 1 at Peccole Park as Nevada hosts Santa Clara. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. PT for the Pack (3-2) and Broncos (3-1). Don Marchand will call Tuesday's game on 1060 AM with online audio also available.
Tuesday will mark the 122nd all-time meeting between Nevada and Santa Clara. The Pack trails in the series history, 55-65-2. Nevada met Santa Clara once last season, falling 3-0 on the road.
LEADING OFF
• Despite losing 70 percent of its total offense from last season, the Wolf Pack has opened the 2016 campaign with offensive fireworks, ranking first in the Mountain West in runs scored, hits, triples and total bases while ranking second in home runs.
• The Wolf Pack's home-opener is set for March 1 against Santa Clara as Nevada eye's win No. 500 all-time at Peccole Park. In 28 seasons at Peccole Park, Nevada boasts a 499-240 record.
• Head coach T.J. Bruce has announced his starting pitching rotation for the UC Irvine series. Senior LHP Christian Stolo will start on Friday, sophomore RHP Mark Nowaczewski will start on Saturday and junior LHP Trenton Brooks will start on Sunday.
• After a doubleheader setback on season-opening day, Nevada was responded with three consecutive wins. The Wolf Pack boasts the second-largest win streak in the Mountain West.
• Nevada leads the Mountain West in batters struck out (47) and ranks 38th out of 295 Division I teams in strikeouts per nine innings (9.8).
• The Wolf Pack leads the MW in stolen bases and ranks 23rd in Division I with 2.2 stolen bases per game. Last season, Nevada averaged just .88 stolen bases per game.
