FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 13th ranked University of Nevada rifle team placed second at the Alaska triangular on Thursday at the E.F. Horton Range on the University of Alaska campus. The fifth ranked Nanooks shot 4709 to win the event followed by the Wolf Pack's 4643 and #17 UTEP scored 4614.
The same three teams will compete on Saturday in the NCAA Qualifier.
Freshman Mitchell Van Patten shot a season-high 595 in air rifle to finish third and teammate Sarah Jameson's 590 was fourth. Emily Capaul placed 11th with a 583 and Niki Silveria took 15th with a 577. Justin Nissen was 18th shooting 570.
Nissen shot a personal best 585 in the smallbore to finish fourth in the event. Van Patten was ninth with his 578 followed by Silveria's 572 to earn 11th. Jameson (569), Capaul (566) and Greta Ochsner (565) took spots 13, 15 and 17 respectively.
Van Patten's personal best 1173 aggregate score ranked fourth in the competition.
