Stopper of the Year Watch List Get Acrobat Reader

RENO, Nev. - Junior Evan McMahan has been named to the watch list for the 12th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in the country.

A right-handed pitcher hailing from Las Vegas, McMahan is one of two pitcher from the Mountain West to be named to the watch list, joining Fresno State's Tim Borst. McMahan is one of 70 players nationally to be named to the watch list.

McMahan had a stellar season in 2015 with a 2.32 ERA in 19 appearances. The 6-foot righty posted a 5-0 record with three saves and pitched in three combined shutouts. McMahan tallied 54.1 innings on the season, allowing just 14 earned runs. McMahan also improved as the season progressed, posting a 1.27 ERA and 3-0 record in Mountain West play.

The 2016 Stopper of the Year Watch List will be updated with a midseason release on April 27, while finalists will be announced on June 8. The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the award winner, which will be announced at the College World Series.

McMahan and the Wolf Pack open the season in just four days, playing Northwestern in Mesa, Ariz., from Feb. 19-21. Action will get underway Friday with a double header as first pitch times are set for 1 and 5 p.m. PT.
