FULL RESULTS BOISE, Idaho - The Nevada Wolf Pack was dominant in Boise, Idaho today, taking four first places at the Boise State Challenge.
Nevada claimed victory in the 5000 meter, the 60 meter dash, the 60 meter hurdles, and shot put. The Pack took nine top-three spots overall, with several competitors earning new personal records.
Senior Anna Preciado started the meet of in the 5000m. She burst off the line to take the lead and, battling with a runner from Lewis-Clark State, maintained the lead for all but a lap. As the senior rounded a corner with 10 laps to go, she began to widen her lead above everyone else, lapping five other competitors. In the end, she crossed the finished line the victor with a time of 18:03.63, a full 12 seconds ahead of second place.
Dominance on the track continued in the 60m dash. Senior Kashae Knox, sophomores Makeya White and Alyssa Porter and Freshman Tegan Wilson all qualified for the finals, with Wilson setting a new personal record of 7.87 seconds. In the finals, Nevada took the top two spots with Knox up top with a time of 7.57 seconds and White right behind her at 7.63 seconds. Wilson and Porter rounded at the group at fifth and sixth.
Sophomore Alexandra Tierney led things for the Pack in the 60m hurdles, setting a new personal record of 8.9, .2 seconds better than her previous, to qualify for the finals. Nicole Wadden qualified right behind Tierney in the second spot. At the end of it, Tierney claimed her first ever collegiate victory with a finals time of 8.96 seconds. Wadden took third, just .09 seconds behind Tierney.
Sidney Root, competing in her first indoor meet of the year, placed third in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:57.11. As the field widened, Root began to slip. But, coming around the final corner toward the end of the race, she kicked it into gear, edging out two runners to claim a top-three finish.
Nevada also had a strong showing in the field competitions. Sophomore Anna DuBois came just an inch short of her sixth Nevada all-time throw to win the shot put with a throw of 47 feet and 5.25 inches. Freshman Brandi French took second right behind her, tossing 46 feet and nine inches. Senior Kinsey Minter went five and seven inches for second place in the high jump. Wadden placed second and sophomore Nathlie Cartan took fifth in the long jump.
"I'm so happy to see all the hard work paying off," DuBois said. "Now I'm just really excited for championships in two weeks and to see where we all end up."
In the Husky Invite in Seattle, senior Caitlin Devitt-Payne ran a mile time of 4:54.69 and junior Erika Root logged a time of 5:08.39.
Next up for the Pack is the Mountain West Indoor Championships, held in Albuquerque, N.M. Feb. 25-27.
