SEATTLE - Emily Myers is having such a successful year, she's decided to start breaking her own records.
Myers, who has become a staple in the history of Nevada distance running, broke her own 5000 meter school record tonight at the Husky Classic in Seattle. Her time of 16:22.51 bested her old record by 15 seconds. This is the second record in as many weeks the captain has broken, including setting a new top 3000 meter time just two weeks ago, also in Seattle.
Myers started the race rough, battling a weeklong cold. However, after kicking into gear, she brought herself to the front of the pack with 11 laps to go. She remained in that spot until the fourth lap, when she turned her burners on and moved from sixth to fifth, from fifth to fourth and from fourth to third, where she crossed the finish line, holding a new record.
The Cabot, Ark. native holds more school records than any other current Nevada athlete, including the indoor 5000m, 3000m, 10,000m, the outdoor 5000m and the 6000m in cross country.
