RENO, Nev. - With a jump of 19 feet and 0.5 inches, junior long jumper Kadeisha Hield staked her claim in Nevada history, moving to fifth on the indoor all-time list.
"I came here with the mindset that I was going to set a personal record," Hield said. "After setting it the first time, that was such a good confidence boost. That's why I was able to jump further the third time."
Hield performance was one of many great ones for the Nevada Wolf Pack Saturday at the Jacksons Open in Boise, Idaho. The Pack placed a total of seven-student athletes at the top of their events. Freshman Emily Etter, who transferred from Idaho State, set a collegiate personal record in the pole vault with her jump of 12 feet 1.5 inches, debuting on the Nevada all-time list in a tie for eighth with Casey Gray.
Junior triple jumpers Brittany Graves and Dezirae Pennington took the top two spots with their strong marks. Graves jumped 38 feet and 8.75 inches and Pennington came in at 37 feet and 7.75 inches, both marks in line with their personal records.
Senior Anna DuBois and sophomore Brandi French both performed well in the throwing events. DuBois claimed second in the weight throw with a personal best of 48 feet and 6.25 inches. French led the Wolf Pack with a second place finish in the shot put, throwing for 47 feet and 7 inches while DuBois followed up in third at 46 feet and 8.25 inches.
Freshman Gaby Palmer started off her collegiate career with a third place finish in the pole vault from her jump of 10 feet and 8 inches.
Senior Leah Carter returned this season as the team's top high jumper and proved it with her first place finish. Carter claimed the top spot with a jump of 5 feet and 5 inches.
The sprints were a strong point for Nevada at the season opener as Franziska Kindt claimed first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.01, a new personal record for the senior transfer from Germany. Junior Makeya White took first in the 60 meter dash with her time of 7.71. Junior Alexandra Tierney placed second in the 60 meter hurdles to lead the Wolf Pack, crossing the finish line in 9.16.
Senior Emily Myers made her return after redshirting this last outdoor season, taking first in the 3000 meter with a time of 9:52.03, followed by Marissa Suan in third after crossing the line in 10:33.81. Redshirt freshman Eliza McCall was the Wolf Pack's top 800 meter finisher, coming in third at 2:17.03.
Nevada wrapped up the afternoon with a 3:54.05 victory in the 4x400 meter relay.
The Pack will take some time off for the holiday break before returning to Boise on January 21 for the Bronco Invitational.
