FORT WORTH, Texas - The 13th ranked University of Nevada rifle team shot a season-best 4665 in a Patriot Rifle Conference loss at second ranked TCU on Saturday. The Horned Frogs shot 4708 and improved to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the PRC. The Wolf Pack fell to 5-4 and 4-4 in conference action.
"We had a great match with TCU," head coach Fred Harvey said. "Mitchell shot shoulder to shoulder with Mindy Miles (TCU's best shooter). They were on adjacent firing points. She had a 587 in smallbore and he finished with a 585. It literally came down to the last two shots. We came within five points of a school record in smallbore and two points in air rifle."
Sophomore Mitchell Van Patten continues to lead the Pack with his outstanding shooting. Van Patten tied his best score of the season with a 585 in smallbore to finish second and his 591 in air rifle was fourth. His season-high 1176 aggregate score was also second to TCU's Miles.
Freshman Eli Larimer posted his top score of the season in smallbore with a 582 to finish fourth. Junior Emily Capaul was the third Pack shooter to post a season-high in smallbore with a 579 which was good for ninth.
Junior Sarah Jameson shot 589 in air rifle to finish eighth and Capaul's 588 was ninth. Capaul also posted a season-best 1167 aggregate score that ranked sixth on Saturday.
Nevada hosts No. 5 Alaska on Sunday, Nov. 6.
