DAVIS, Calif. - University of Nevada freshman Julien Evrard lost his A bracket singles semifinal match on Saturday while fellow freshman Kostya Nesterenko advanced to the B bracket consolation singles finals set for Sunday at the UC Davis Invitational. The invitational is being played at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on the UC Davis campus. The Wolf Pack also has two doubles teams still in contention in the consolation brackets.
Evrard downed Portland's Alexander Wallace in three sets 6-7, 6-4 and 6-2 to advance to the semifinals. Portland's Mathieu Garcia won the semifinal match in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
In the B consolation bracket Nesterenko won his quarterfinal match 6-4, 1-6 and 1-0 over Sacramento State's Louis Chabot. In the semifinal match he defeated Gonzaga's Kyle Everly 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 to advance to the finals. Sunday he plays Gonzaga's Samuel Feit in the finals.
Robert Margitfalvi and Nesterenko will play in the finals of the A consolation bracket doubles on Sunday. Peter O'Donovan and Alex Turc are in the semifinals of the B consolation doubles and will play Gonzaga's Emilio Moreno and Ruadhan O'Sullivan with the winner advancing to the finals.
